The Importance of a 44 Pound Cat

I don't think anyone grasped the situation Stephen Colbert amusingly pointed out, by presenting the viewer with an issue of The New York Post and letting us know the value of news items reported in one of the 2 major players of print media in New York City. One was of a cat who was fed to obesity. The other was about a United States Senator, who was indicted. The cat, Princess Chunk got page 1 coverage, a front page picture, and additional pages inside The NY Post. The indicted U.S. Senator from Alaska, serving since 1968 and once on the Senate appropriations committee, was given a small article on page 17.
Apparently, The NY Post knows the intelligence of its' readers. Nobody gives a damn a representative of the people is indicted for accepting pay-offs from a business leader and friend (which is nothing new in our legislature). The American public wants to read about and will pay for a newspaper about some obese cat.
Is it any wonder we have an idiot in the White House, are in a recession, and can't afford to fill our gas tanks? Look out National Enquirer, the major newspapers have learned of your secret for success... feed the idiots garbage and keep them entertained while the country falls apart.
